A Song of Moses

Mike Kurtz

The vision of John in Rev. 15:2 -3 reveals a group of people standing on a sea of glass and fire – those who stood firm and victorious over the beast. Interesting that they are said to be victorious and yet that have apparently died…

They seen to be singing “the Song of Moses”. It seems appropriate then, for today, to consider what that song was. We find the Song of Moses in the book of Exodus immediately following the crossing of the Red Sea and the destruction of the enemies caught in the flood of the unrestrained waters.

For today, read, reflect, and respond to the Song of Moses in Exodus  15:1-18. This is a powerful song of praise that has so many great features to encourage us. How does this passage encourage you?

It would be cool if we could get some more discussion up here. :)
Remember when we talked about the people asking “Who is like the beast?” Here we see in verse 11 “Who is like you, O Lord, among the Gods.”
I’m impressed over and over in Revelation by the power of God and the love of God. In verse 13 we read that God has led the people in his steadfast love, whom he has redeemed. Why did God lead this people? Why did God redeem them? Why does God care enough about you and me that he would redeem us and guide us even though we don’t deserve it?
The great thing is he does care, he does love, and like it says at the close of the song, he will reign forever and ever.

I’m sure we’ve all had times when God delivers us from difficult situations. This leaves us to reflect on our response and attitude towards God’s deliverance in our lives. Do we break out in song or psalms, in praise of who God is and what He has done? When I read through this song, I’m left to wonder if I truly know God in this way. From Oswald Chambers, “we receive His blessings and know His Word but do we know Him?” If we do why isn’t there more songs and psalms of praise…?
